Future stars Rules
Never played soccer before? No problem.
Fall Recreation is designed for players of all ability and experience levels.
New players are placed onto teams based on age, roster availability, location, team needs, and other factors whenever possible.
Our goal is to make a player’s introduction to soccer a positive experience that encourages them to continue playing and enjoying the game.
Games are primarily played on Saturdays throughout Elk Grove for 7-8 year olds and 4-6 year olds play on Friday evenings.
Game schedules are created after teams have been finalized.
Families should plan for games at various times throughout the day. Exact game times can vary from week to week depending on field availability, age division, and scheduling requirements.
Our goal is to create an enjoyable Saturday soccer environment where players can put into practice the skills they have learned during the week.
Fall Recreation is available for boys and girls across multiple age divisions.
Eligible Ages: 3 – 8 years
Players are generally placed into divisions based on their birth year and the applicable seasonal age-group structure.
Game formats, field sizes, roster sizes, and rules are adjusted by age to create an appropriate environment for player development.
Younger players participate in smaller-sided games designed to provide more touches on the ball, more involvement, and more opportunities to learn.
As players get older, the game gradually progresses toward larger-sided formats.
Elk Grove Soccer believes recreation soccer should be both fun and developmental.
Practices and games provide players with opportunities to improve:
Dribbling and ball control
Passing and receiving
Shooting and finishing
Movement and coordination
Decision-making
Understanding of the game
Communication
Teamwork
Confidence
At the Recreation level, success is not measured simply by wins and losses.
We want players to enjoy coming to soccer, become more confident with the ball, learn how to be a teammate, and develop a lifelong enjoyment of the game.
We understand that many children want to play soccer with their friends.
Families may submit a friend request during registration.
Elk Grove Soccer will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests; however, friend requests cannot be guaranteed.
Team size, age division, coach availability, roster balance, registration date, and available space all affect player placement.
Registering early provides the best opportunity for requests to be accommodated.

Our objective is to build teams that create the best possible experience for players while keeping roster sizes appropriate.
Because of the number of variables involved, specific team placement can never be guaranteed.
Families may also request a specific coach or returning team during registration.
As with friend requests, Elk Grove Soccer will make every reasonable effort to accommodate the request, but placement cannot be guaranteed.
Returning players should register early if remaining with their existing coach and team is important to them.
Registration may remain open through August, but this does not guarantee that roster space will remain available.
Once a division reaches capacity, players may be placed on a waiting list.
Late registrations may also have fewer options for:
For this reason, families are encouraged to register as soon as possible once registration opens in March.
