Field Locations

Elk Grove Soccer Recreation teams are formed with the goal of keeping players close to home and playing with other children from their local community.

Players who register on time are placed based on their home ZIP code, whenever possible. Our goal is to create age-appropriate teams while keeping players who live in the same neighborhoods and attend nearby schools together.

Players who register after the registration deadline will be placed on teams based on available roster space and may not be placed within their preferred area.

Coach Resources

Player Safety & Risk Management

Elk Grove Soccer is committed to providing a safe, positive, and supportive environment for every player. All coaches and volunteers are required to complete applicable background checks, safety education, and risk management requirements before participating with a team.

Coach Education & Development

Elk Grove Soccer provides coaches with education, resources, and ongoing support throughout the season. From first-time volunteers to experienced coaches, our goal is to give every coach the tools, knowledge, and confidence to create a positive, development-focused experience for every player.

Rules of Play:

Never played soccer before? No problem.

Fall Recreation is designed for players of all ability and experience levels.

New players are placed onto teams based on age, roster availability, location, team needs, and other factors whenever possible.

Our goal is to make a player’s introduction to soccer a positive experience that encourages them to continue playing and enjoying the game.

Games are primarily played on Saturdays throughout Elk Grove.

Game schedules are created after teams have been finalized.

Families should plan for games at various times throughout the day. Exact game times can vary from week to week depending on field availability, age division, and scheduling requirements.

Our goal is to create an enjoyable Saturday soccer environment where players can put into practice the skills they have learned during the week.

Fall Recreation is available for boys and girls across multiple age divisions.

Eligible Ages: 8 – 19 years

Players are generally placed into divisions based on their birth year and the applicable seasonal age-group structure.

Game formats, field sizes, roster sizes, and rules are adjusted by age to create an appropriate environment for player development.

Younger players participate in smaller-sided games designed to provide more touches on the ball, more involvement, and more opportunities to learn.

As players get older, the game gradually progresses toward larger-sided formats.

Elk Grove Soccer believes recreation soccer should be both fun and developmental.

Practices and games provide players with opportunities to improve:

Dribbling and ball control
Passing and receiving
Shooting and finishing
Movement and coordination
Decision-making
Understanding of the game
Communication
Teamwork
Confidence

At the Recreation level, success is not measured simply by wins and losses.

We want players to enjoy coming to soccer, become more confident with the ball, learn how to be a teammate, and develop a lifelong enjoyment of the game.

We understand that many children want to play soccer with their friends.

Families may submit a friend request during registration.

Elk Grove Soccer will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests; however, friend requests cannot be guaranteed.

Team size, age division, coach availability, roster balance, registration date, and available space all affect player placement.

Registering early provides the best opportunity for requests to be accommodated.

Recreation teams typically practice during the week.

Practice days, times, and locations are determined based on:

  • Coach availability
  • Field availability
  • Team age
  • Available practice locations

Because Recreation coaches are volunteers, Elk Grove Soccer cannot guarantee a specific practice day, time, or location before teams are formed.

Families should be prepared for weekday practices, generally during the late afternoon or evening.

Elk Grove Soccer believes every child should have the opportunity to play.

Financial assistance may be available to qualifying families through Elk Grove Soccer’s player assistance programs.

Financial Assistance Information & Application is available through PlayMetrics when you register.

Families needing assistance are encouraged to apply early so the process can be completed before team formation.

Teams are formed after registration numbers become clearer and coaches are identified.

When forming teams, Elk Grove Soccer considers several factors, including:

  • Returning team requests
  • Returning coaches
  • Friend requests
  • Player age
  • Available roster positions
  • Geographic considerations
  • Division size
  • Coach availability

Our objective is to build teams that create the best possible experience for players while keeping roster sizes appropriate.

Because of the number of variables involved, specific team placement can never be guaranteed.

Families may also request a specific coach or returning team during registration.

As with friend requests, Elk Grove Soccer will make every reasonable effort to accommodate the request, but placement cannot be guaranteed.

Returning players should register early if remaining with their existing coach and team is important to them.

Registration may remain open through August, but this does not guarantee that roster space will remain available.

Once a division reaches capacity, players may be placed on a waiting list.

Late registrations may also have fewer options for:

  • Returning team placement
  • Friend requests
  • Coach requests
  • Preferred geographic placement

For this reason, families are encouraged to register as soon as possible once registration opens in March.

Fall Recreation would not be possible without our volunteer coaches.

Parents and community members volunteer their time to provide thousands of Elk Grove players with a positive soccer experience each year.

You do not need to be an experienced soccer coach to volunteer.

Elk Grove Soccer provides coaches with guidance, resources, education, and age-appropriate training materials to help them create quality practices and a positive team environment.

If you are interested in becoming a Head Coach or Assistant Coach, please indicate your interest during registration.

Why Coach?

Coaching provides parents with an opportunity to:

  • Be directly involved in their child’s soccer experience
  • Help young players develop confidence
  • Build a positive team culture
  • Learn more about the game
  • Give back to the Elk Grove community

We are always looking for great people to help create great experiences for our players.

Registration typically opens in early March.

Registration generally remains open through August, but divisions can close earlier when roster capacity is reached.

Yes. Families registering during the initial registration period receive the Early Bird rate.

We will make every reasonable effort to keep returning players with their previous teams. However, roster space is limited and placement cannot be guaranteed.

Register early for the best opportunity to return to your team.

Friend requests can be submitted during registration. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests, but they cannot be guaranteed.

Practices take place during the week. Exact days, times, and locations depend primarily on coach and field availability.

Games are primarily played on Saturdays from August through November.

No games are scheduled on the Saturday, , during Labor Day weekend.

Once teams and rosters are finalized, families will receive communication regarding their team, coach, practices, and upcoming season.

Please remember that team formation is a significant process involving hundreds of teams and thousands of players. Registering early helps the club complete this process as efficiently as possible.
